The concrete base is the foundation for your new concrete garage.
It is important to invest in the best possible base for your building, as cutting corners at this point will lead to problems later on. Remember that any building is only as good as the base it is built on. Below are some do's and don't when it comes to base construction.
Do's for the Concrete Base Construction
- Do try and use a contractor as recommended by your concrete garage erection company, or at the very least a competent local builder
- Make sure the base is square, flat, and level
- Build your base 152mm (6") wider and longer than the external dimensions of your building
- Ensure that the base stands proud of the surrounding ground so that water will not run on to the base
- Consider the type of soil (you will need a different base design for different types of ground)
- Coinsider putting in damp proof membrane if you to store anything inside your building
- Look up when marking our your base - remember that roof sheets and gutters overhang the wall, particularly on a boundary
DONT'S for the Concrete Base Construction
- Do not construct your base from tarmac, paving slabs, pavking blocks or any other material other than concrete
- Build your base at a level lower than surrounding ground, or you cannot guarantee the performance of the sand and cement fillling
- Dont' build your base with a fall to the front, as a weather bar is sometimes provided to prevent water and leaves blowin g under your up and over door.
